At Connect Credit Union, your financial security is one of our top priorities—which is why we want to make all of our members aware of a recent scam attempt that involved caller ID spoofing, a common tactic fraudsters use to appear legitimate.
In this recent incident, a scammer spoofed our credit union’s main phone number and called one of our team members, pretending to be a Connect Credit Union employee. The caller claimed there were suspicious charges on the account—specifically from Amazon and PayPal, supposedly coming from Georgia—and even said they were calling from one of our branch locations.
What the scammer didn’t realize? They had unknowingly called an actual Connect Credit Union employee working at our corporate headquarters. Once our team member started asking questions and pushing back, the scammer abruptly hung up.
This is a textbook example of how sophisticated these scams are becoming. The caller ID looked like it was from us, the story seemed plausible, and the sense of urgency was designed to pressure the recipient into sharing personal information or taking action without thinking twice.
⚠️ Here’s what every member should know:
Scammers can spoof any number they want, including our own. This means your caller ID might show “Connect Credit Union” or display our official phone number, but the call could be coming from a fraudster.
If someone contacts you claiming to be from Connect Credit Union and something just doesn’t feel right—pause and trust your instincts.
✅ Take this action to protect yourself:
HANG UP immediately and call us back at our verified number, which you can find on our website or within online banking: (954) 730-2047.

📱 What to watch for in spoofing scams:
- Unfamiliar charges or account activity
- Pressure to act immediately or share personal information
- Threats of account suspension or fraud
- Requests to provide your online banking login, card number, or PIN
💡 Remember:
We will never ask for sensitive personal information—such as your full account number, PIN, or online banking credentials—over an unsolicited phone call, text, or email.
